CCC February Competition

#1 Wild Orchid
by Jim Hemphill
Good Color and focus. Some thought placement was too centered, but most had trouble with the harsh lighting that created some hot spots. Also some wanted a more creative perspective.

#2 Chesapeake Lighthouse
by Joe Colavita
Clouds help the impact. The composition was alright though some thought the foreground competed with the background too much. Focus seemed sharper on the grass. The lighting did not help with the impact.

#3 Just Hanging
by Ken Barrett
Sharp image with good color and composition. The trouble is all with the background--too many lines and hot areas interfering with the subject and impact

#4 Butterfly on the Green
by Dawn Hulet
Good colors, lighting, composition, with nice use of diagonal. Framing is a little tight, the focus a bit soft and noisy, especially around the head, and some thought the subject a little dull.

#5 Sunset on the Zambezi
by Deede Denton
Nice composition and mood with a good balance between the boat and the sun reflection. Crop closer to the boat on the left, perhaps zooming in a bit, and the horizon silhouette a little monotonous. The dull sky was not a help.

#6 Splash of Red
by Elle Kriser
Nice lines, Depth of Field, Time of Day, composition and impact. The colors were vivid though some thought a little oversaturated. Some wanted to crop down from the top, and some wanted to lose the bottom left brown patch.

#7 Red & White
by Ken Barrett
Nice sharp image with a good angle. The cropping creates the impact.
12+13+14=39

#8 Snowy Creek
by Deede Denton
Good composition with use of textures, lines, and reflection. Some thought the impact was a bit weak.
10+11+12=33

#9 Pink Perfection
by Maris Engle
Sharp with good color and general composition. The 2 background orchids were at odd angles, and there were too many shadows and hot spots, all of which hurt the impact.
10+11+12=33

#10 Muted Fall
by Elle Kriser
Vivid color with good composition, subject and mood. Too much bland sky, and a little oversaturated. A tighter crop might also help pick up a weak impact.

#11 Mount St. Helens
by Dawn Hulet
Good color, depth of Field, impact, composition, and use of leading line. The sky seemed a little bland though there was little seen. While the idea of the foreground anchor was a good one, the anchor was a bit weak.

#12 Dreamscape
by Maris Engle
Nice Lighting. The diagonals and verticals create a nice rhythm and strong impact. Perhaps a horizontal would be better. Some wanted the right tree cropped.
13+13+14=40

#13 Abbey
by Joe Colavita
Nice ominous mood, and use of clouds.Tops of steeples are obscured, the foreground bush distracts, and perhaps the church could be cropped a little.
9+10+11=30

#14 Butterfly Leaf
by Samia Buthman
Background is nice, and the overall colors are pleasing. Some did think however, that the areas of white/grey in the background were distracting. Interest and impact also were lacking, but the biggest concern was the shallow depth of field which left little of the leaf in sharp focus.
